Between fir trees, animals and tradition – Emmi Farmer Ambassadors, the Schmid family

For generations, the Schmid family has run the Ober-Grundhof farm in Emmen near Lucerne with immense passion and responsibility. Patrick Schmid now runs the farm together with his wife, three sons and parents – with a deep awareness of nature, animal welfare and tradition.

Patrick Schmid is a farmer by conviction. Even as a child, he felt the desire to work with animals, people and nature – and to run his own business. Today, he lives his dream on the Ober-Grundhof farm in Emmen (LU).

The farm has been owned by the family since 1790 and is now in its ninth generation. The family runs a diverse farm on around 35 hectares, characterised by respect for the environment and loving treatment towards the animals.

For Patrick, the decisive factor is not whether a farm is certified organic, but whether it is managed with care and responsibility.

The cowshed is home to 25 dairy cows of the Braunvieh, Red Holstein, Holstein and Jersey breeds. Every cow has its own peculiarities, which are appreciated and respected by the family.

The farm supplies around 100,000 liters of milk each year for the production of delightful dairy products. Another portion is marketed directly through a milk vending machine on the farm.

Together with our farmer ambassadors, we strive to make sustainable dairy the norm.

The farm also includes 1.6 hectares with Christmas trees, mainly Nordmann firs. From mid-November to Christmas, Ober-Grundhof is in full swing: trees must be felled, packed and delivered on time. For Patrick, it’s a touching experience every year when families choose their own Christmas tree – whether perfectly grown or charmingly crooked, every tree finds its new home.

Family is particularly important to Patrick: when he gets a break from working, Patrick enjoys spending time with his family, because for him, they’re the most important source of support and his greatest pleasure in everyday life.

The farm shop also has a long tradition. Patrick’s grandfather began with selling sour cider, which he delivered all the way to Lucerne. Today, the family offers fresh, regional products that are highly valued by customers.

Patrick’s wife is responsible for the loving design of the store and its range of products. With her fine feel for aesthetics and the wishes of her customers, she creates a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

Patrick is proud to be an Emmi Farmer Ambassador because, just like at Emmi, innovation, quality and humanity are reflected in his own farm. Being part of this community fills him with joy and pride.
