Emmi farmer ambassador Fridolin Landolt puts his heart and soul into his animals and the future

In the Landolt family, it goes without saying that they see each other regularly: daughter and grandmother live either on the premises or nearby. Even if it’s just for a bit of a natter: "All the generations see each other and talk to one another – and I think that’s great!" declares Fridolin Landolt.

In the Linth region of the canton of Glarus, the Landolt family cares for the welfare of around 33 cows, lots of pigs, cats, farm dog Bella and several livery horses, with the strength that comes from a close-knit family. Fridolin Landolt dotes on his cows: "They radiate warmth with their round eyes. They look at you so loyally."

In the summer, 16 of the family’s large-eyed companions are allowed up onto the Alp. The cows are accompanied by the family, who go up to the Alp to mow every year. It's a little family event in which everyone does their bit and also gets the chance to enjoy themselves from time to time. "We have a hut up there, and that’s our holiday, really," explains Fridolin.

The Landolt family can look back over generations. That means they can take part in the "KlimaStaR Milch" project. The cross-sector resource project aims to reduce greenhouse gases and food competition by 20% over six years. The findings from the project are intended to enable continual improvements in milk production for all milk producers, as well as making it more sustainable on an ongoing basis.

Fridolin is proud to be involved: "Sustainable production is very important to me because we want to leave sound, clean agricultural land behind for our children and our children’s children. We use the project to share our experiences and learn from one another in order to achieve this together and as partners."

Emmi Farmer Ambassadors

Our longstanding partnership with our regional dairy farmers has always been particularly important to us: it is characterised by trust, closeness to our origins and quality awareness. Through this close cooperation, we can help to create value in rural regions and remain true to the core of our products, with high-quality and increasingly sustainably produced milk. Together, we create added value and make sustainable dairy farming the norm. Emmi launched the Emmi Farmer Ambassador project in 2018 to further strengthen the partnership and to put the families behind our delicious dairy products front and centre. Go to emmi.com/bauernbotschafter for some photos and videos that will provide you with a vivid insight into the everyday life on the farms of what are now around 300 Emmi Farmer Ambassadors.

Stories How Emmi Farmer Ambassador Dominique Schmid reconciles agriculture and sustainability

#Sustainability - 19. January 2024 | Dominique Schmid invests a lot of work into his farm with around 80 cows – so much, in fact, that office work sometimes has to wait. Forage production, breeding, fattening calves, owning a farm shop and paying particular attention to the correct use of resources demand quite a lot from the milk producer. Even in winter, there is a lot to do with animal care and breeding.
