Continuous Portfolio Transformation
The Emmi Group has been pursuing a focused and disciplined portfolio transformation strategy for many years. Acquisitions have consistently played a key role in strengthening market positions and accelerating organic growth. Over the past 30 years, Emmi has completed 45 acquisitions, successfully integrated them, and continuously developed its portfolio beyond Switzerland. The strategic focus is on four selected niches and markets in which Emmi has strong expertise, a relevant market position, and the ability to drive profitable growth.
The Emmi Group divested Gläserne Molkerei, a Germany-based producer of regional organic dairy products, to Mutares. The transaction was part of Emmi’s consistent and continuous portfolio transformation and its focus on profitable, strategic markets and niches.
Emmi sold its 25% stake in the Italian cheese specialist Ambrosi SpA. This transaction was carried out as part of the continuous portfolio transformation and the strategic focus on clearly defined, profitable growth segments, accompanied by a strengthening of majority shareholdings.
Laticínios Porto Alegre, the Brazilian subsidiary of the Emmi Group, announced the acquisition of a majority stake in the dairy Verde Campo in the state of Minas Gerais (closing in May 2024). This move strengthens Emmi’s existing market position in the strategic key market of Brazil.
Verde Campo is well established in Brazil with its innovation-driven, functional premium dairy products such as yogurts and milk drinks featuring high-quality protein based on natural whey. The brand is particularly popular among consumers in Brazil’s metropolitan areas who value health and functionality.
With the announced acquisition of the coffee roastery Hochstrasser, Emmi will strengthen its coffee expertise as well as the innovative development of the iconic brand Emmi Caffè Latte. The two Lucerne-based traditional companies are connected by a successful and trust-based partnership spanning more than 20 years.
This close collaboration has been—and continues to be—a decisive success factor behind the outstanding barista quality of Emmi Caffè Latte. Hochstrasser itself looks back on a company history of more than 100 years. Emmi and Hochstrasser share an uncompromising commitment to high product quality, enthusiastic consumers, passion for their craft, and responsible corporate conduct.
As part of its continuous portfolio transformation and focus on profitable growth, Emmi has built up significant dessert expertise over the past ten years. This began in 2011 in Italy with Italian-inspired desserts such as tiramisu and continued with a fifth dessert acquisition in 2020 in the United States, which expanded the portfolio to include American- and Latin American-inspired desserts and served as a springboard for Emmi’s dessert business in the U.S.
With the acquisition of the Mademoiselle Desserts Group, Emmi complements its portfolio with French-inspired desserts.
