He particularly appreciates the variety in his day-to-day work, in which he can contribute both technical understanding and creativity. He loves the challenge of solving complex problems and the opportunity to work in a future-oriented field. Learn more about him in the interview:

Why did you choose Emmi?

Before my apprenticeship at Emmi, I completed an apprenticeship as a chef. But my passion for computer science prompted me to start a second apprenticeship. During my trial apprenticeship, I quickly realised that Emmi was the right place for me. I already knew a few people here, including a good friend whom I’ve known since we were in year 5 and who already works as a computer scientist at Emmi. During the trial apprenticeship, I received great feedback, which really motivated me, and the pleasant atmosphere also impressed me.

What has been your best Emmi moment?

One of my favourite moments at Emmi was the end-of-year event of my IT department. Along with a great drinks reception, I had the opportunity to get to know my team and many other colleagues at a more personal level. Events like this show time and again how valuable interpersonal interaction is and how good the team spirit is at Emmi.

What do you like most about your work?

What I enjoy most is supporting our customers with their technical issues. For us, our own colleagues at Emmi are the customers. I find the specific enquiries where I have to delve deeper into the specialist areas particularly exciting. Successfully solving a problem or implementing a request and seeing that my work has paid off always feels great.

In addition to the exciting tasks, I also value the people at Emmi. The teamwork here is great. We support each other and create a motivating environment together.

Daily interaction with our customers – our colleagues – is also important to me, as it offers the ideal mix of teamwork and independent work. It’s precisely this variety that I like about my job.

What does your daily routine at Emmi look like?

My working day starts every day at 7:30 am. In the morning, the first thing I do is get an overview and see which IT tickets are up for today. IT tickets are queries or problems reported by our customers, other Emmi employees, that have to be solved. These tickets can be anything, such as technical problems with the software, access to certain systems or network errors. For us as a team, the priority is to solve these tickets. That’s the most important thing of the day. The time required for this varies depending on the problem. Usually, however, it takes me about half an hour per ticket.

Once the tickets have been processed, I work on my assigned project tasks. An example of this is creating a script for a program, which I am currently working on independently.

I usually enjoy lunch with my team in the canteen and we like to chat about everything. We have our daily support team meeting in the afternoon at 3:00 pm. This is where we meet up with the different teams and exchange ideas. This includes making sure that everything runs smoothly on the servers. After our meeting, I process the remaining IT tickets allocated after the meeting. Finally, the day ends for me at around 5:00 p.m.

What are the benefits for you at Emmi?

One of the biggest benefits is receiving optimal support in all areas. During my apprenticeship, I get the opportunity to gain insight into the world of IT in various departments. What I find particularly exciting is how a location like ours in Ostermundigen is integrated into a global company. This transition from local to global fascinates me very much.

Teamwork is also a real highlight at Emmi. My colleagues are great and my vocational trainer is always there to support me. He ensures that I can develop not only professionally, but also personally.

Another small but delicious benefit at Emmi is the Emmi Caffè Latte fridge, which is always full. This provides an excellent energy boost between meals.

How are you supported in the event of problems or challenges?

My first point of contact is my practical trainer, who is responsible for me in each department. But I can also get in touch with other colleagues at any time if I need help. The nice thing about it is that everyone takes the time to help me. In general, I am always well supported here at Emmi if I have problems.

Fortunately, I haven’t had any major problems so far. My previous apprenticeship as a chef taught me to handle stressful situations well. This helps me to stay calm and focused here at Emmi.

Which Emmi product do you enjoy the most?

One of my absolute favourites is Emmi Caffè Latte Caramel. It’s the perfect companion, whether in the morning for a good start to the day or as a little break during the day.

How would you describe the working environment at Emmi?

For me, the best words to describe it are goal-oriented, motivating and modern.

In addition, the interaction with one another is very casual and relaxed, which makes it easy to feel comfortable. At the same time, however, everyone works with determination. We all pull together to achieve the best results together. I particularly appreciate how Emmi motivates its employees, whether through recognition, support or the opportunity to contribute their own ideas. The modern environment at Emmi also makes a big difference to me. For example, the first-name culture and flexible working models, such as working from home, ensure that I enjoy coming to work. This environment makes it easy to give my best every day.

What will your path look like in the future?

First of all, I want to successfully complete my apprenticeship. After that, I would like to stay in IT and at Emmi, because I think Emmi is a great employer. My aim is to specialise at Emmi and complete further training. I’m particularly interested in graduate computer science with a focus on platform engineering and graduate computer science with a focus on cyber security and computer networks. These specialisations will allow me to deepen my knowledge and take an active part in the exciting challenges of the IT world.

At some point, I want to fulfil a big dream of mine: discovering the world on my motorcycle. I look forward to exploring new places and experiencing unforgettable adventures. There’s still a lot to experience in my future and I’m excited to see where the journey will take me.

Our author Sophie

My name is Sophie Jung and I started my three-year commerical apprenticeship at Emmi in 2023

From August 2024 to January 2025, I had the great pleasure of working in Corporate Communications. During this time, I was incolced in an exciting project: the creation of various apprentive portraits. This was a great opportunity to plan and realise a product independently. If I had any questions, my practice photographer and my team were always there to support me.

Now the moment has come for me to share the portrait of Noah. I am incredibly proud of the result and am delighted to be able to present the stories and faces of our learners.
