Benecol® from Emmi is a special yogurt drink that has been shown to lower cholesterol levels thanks to its unique active ingredient, plant stanols.
Plant stanols are found naturally in foods such as cereals, maize, nuts and soya. Unfortunately, our diets nowadays contain insufficient plant stanols. However, one bottle of Benecol per day contains sufficient plant stanols (2 grams per bottle) to achieve a cholesterol-lowering effect.
The plant stanols in Benecol inhibit the body’s absorption of cholesterol. To date, over 70 studies have scientifically demonstrated the cholesterol-lowering effect of plant stanols. Consuming one bottle of Benecol per day makes it possible to reduce the level of cholesterol by 7 to 10% after two to three weeks.
A bottle of Benecol contains 2 grams of plant stanols. This corresponds to an effective daily portion, which has been shown to reduce cholesterol levels by 7 to 10% within two to three weeks. Exceeding the recommended daily dose of plant stanols has no additional effect on cholesterol levels.
The Benecol yogurt drink can easily be incorporated into your daily diet. It is most effective when taken immediately before or after a large meal.

If you are already taking cholesterol-lowering medicines, Benecol may further lower your cholesterol level and may therefore also affect the dosage of your medicines. In such cases, you should discuss using Benecol with your doctor before taking it.
In the European Union, so‑called tethered caps – i.e. caps that are firmly attached to the bottle – are required by law. Emmi sells products such as Aktifit and Benecol not only in Switzerland, but also across various EU markets. For reasons of efficiency and sustainability, we therefore use the same packaging solution in all markets.
As a result, Aktifit and Benecol will now also be equipped with tethered caps in Switzerland. This change affects the packaging only – the recipe, taste and product quality remain unchanged.
The introduction of tethered caps will take place gradually between calendar week 23.2026 and calendar week 37.2026. During this transition period, products with the previous closure system as well as products with the new caps may be available at retail outlets.
The tethered‑cap system used has been designed to be user‑friendly: the cap is connected to the bottle by a small linking element, allowing it to remain flexible and, if necessary, to be removed with minimal effort.
This change is part of a broader development within the food industry. The aim of the new legal requirements is to reduce packaging waste and strengthen the circular economy – an objective that the Emmi Group actively supports.
